A Very Cool Experience… Mister Miagi Style {Life Prints Portrait Design}

Last month, my son attended a parade in Gresham Oregon where his Taekwondo school was marching.  It was a lot of fun with TONS of people… okay, maybe a bit chaotic.   Shortly before the parade itself was suppose to begin, we had all found the staging area where we were suppose to wait our turn to march.  Unfortunately, we found that we were one of the very last groups, it was a hot day and everyone was getting a bit anxious to get going.

At one point, there was a large group of us standing around in a rather disorderly fashion with most of kids surrounding the school’s instructor, Master Jeong.  As we were standing around, a dragonfly started circling over head and caught everyone’s attention.  All of a sudden Master Jeong raised his arm in the air with two of his fingers held out like you might if you wanted a bird to sit on them.  Within seconds, this dragonfly started circling around and alighted on his fingers.  Master Jeong brought his hand down in front of his chest and actually started petting the dragonfly!

You should have seen the looks on all the kids faces as they encirled their instructor, who obviously was achieving a whole new level of respect and admiration at that moment.  Heck, most of us adults watching were standing there with our jaws dropped open in amazement.  Of course, I love dragonflies to the point of having a dragonfly as part of our logo for Life Prints.  So I was thoroughly impressed!

Luckily my son’s father, TJ, had his camera with him and thought quickly and started snapping some pictures.  Then just as quickly as it began, Master Jeong lifted his hand back into the air and the dragonfly flew off.

Amazing.  Truly one of those moments in life that make you pause and wonder at the beauty of nature and man’s relationship to everything around us.

We are SOOOOO excited.  If you don’t already know about it, you’re just in time!

On October 30th, 2010 Life Prints Portrait Design is holding it’s 1st annual Limited Edition Halloween Portrait Party and Food Drive.  We’re going to be doing custom mini-sessions all day to photograph your little ghosts and goblins… and princesses too of course!

Our Halloween Portrait Party is also a food drive to benefit the Oregon Food Bank.  Everyone who brings canned and/or boxed food with them is going to get a discount on their Halloween mini-session.

So here’s the deal…

  • We’ll be open from 9am-6pm Saturday October 30th
  • All sessions will be 15 minute “mini-sessions”
  • We’ll do pictures of the whole family or just the kids (come on grown-ups, you can do it too!) & we’ll take both a group shot and an individual shot of each child
  • Because this is a Limited Edition event, special pricing is in place and must be paid for in advance
  • Each package is only $39 + 2 cans/boxes of food.  What’s included with this package is the mini-session, 1 8×10 print, 2 5×7 prints, 8 wallet prints & 1 web ready image on CD of each child (If you don’t bring in a food donation, there will be an additional $20 due on the day of event.)
  • Additional prints can purchased by the unit.  Each additional unit is $30.00 UNLESS you bring MORE FOOD!  With an additional can/box of food per unit, you can get them for only $15.00 (A unit is 1 8×10 or 2 5×7’s or 4 4×5’s or 8 wallets)
  • Additional units can be purchased the day of the event by cash or check only.
  • We’re also going to be holding a contest to give away a family portrait session with a 16×20 wall portrait (valued at $361.00!)  To enter the drawing, just donate $10 into our food drive bucket.  This is a great way to help some folks this time of year!
  • To prepay for your package and book your mini-session, go to the main website and click on Pay Now at the bottom of the page.  Choose the Halloween Event and pay with your credit or debit card.  Then give us a call to set up your time to come in.  (We’ll take down the link for payments once we’re booked up for the day.)
  • The studio is located at 707 NE Broadway Ave. Suite 208 Portland, OR.  We’re on the corner of NE 7th & Broadway near the Lloyd Center.

We’re going to have a special Halloween stage setup for all your little trick or treaters to be photographed on and the studio will be all decked out for the big day.  There’ll be snacks for everyone and an activity table for the kids to keep them busy while they’re waiting for brothers and sisters to finish up in front of the camera.

We always feel it’s important to give back to the community, and Halloween is our big kick off for the best time of year to help those in need.

We’re going to have a blast and we hope you’ll join us!  Tell everyone you know so that they don’t miss out.

See you soon

Lora & Sue
