Let’s Tell A Story With Your Pictures {Children’s Photography, Life Prints Portrait Design}

Posted on March 17, 2011. Filed under: Baby Portraits, Image Posts, Studio Information | Tags: , , , , |

Have you ever heard of a storyboard?  It’s a term you may hear when you talk to boutique photography studios and it’s one of our client’s favorite products.

This storyboard was created for a family here in Portland Oregon.  Mom, Kim, has worked with the Portland Trailblazers as a Pilates instructor and brought in this jersey and basketball during their family’s holiday portrait session.  I wanted to do something fun for them so I put together this storyboard.  It can be used as a 5×10″ desktop piece on an easel, as a 10×15 framed piece either by itself or with a wall grouping, or even better… as a 20×30 gallery wrap canvas print!

Often, you’ll see multiple images on a storyboard, but sometimes an image just speaks volumes on its own… like this one!

I love doing these custom pieces that really tell a story about what is happening or what is important to a family.  Of course, having such a cute model doesn’t hurt!

On the Good Ship Lollipop… Addie {Children’s Photography, Life Prints Portrait Design}

I lOVE these curls!  Addie totally reminds me of a little Shirley Temple… right?!  She was just too darn cute.  Her moms tell me the’ve never had pictures done of her where they could get real smiles, but we sure didn’t have any problem with that this day.

So my best friend Amy asked me if she could bring her nieces into the studio during their Christmas trip here from California.  She wanted to do a special wall portrait as a gift for her sister, the girls mom.  I said “Sure!  Just be prepared to be in some of them.”  She didn’t believe me.. but I won!  (Thanks for playing Sparky!)  So here’s my best friend Amy and her two gorgeous nieces… oh, and of course we couldn’t leave out my little buddy Sabastian!

Baby Jake {Newborn Photography, Life Prints Portrait Design}

I did this session with baby Jake and his folks a couple of weeks ago, when he was 7 days old.  His mom kept talking about all of the hair on his new little body so I wanted to make sure to get some images detailing this time in a newborns life when they are so new, cuddly and yes, often hairy.  But it’s just about the softest, most beautiful hair you’ll ever see 🙂

A Very Cool Experience… Mister Miagi Style {Life Prints Portrait Design}

Posted on October 29, 2010. Filed under: Articles, Image Posts |

Last month, my son attended a parade in Gresham Oregon where his Taekwondo school was marching.  It was a lot of fun with TONS of people… okay, maybe a bit chaotic.   Shortly before the parade itself was suppose to begin, we had all found the staging area where we were suppose to wait our turn to march.  Unfortunately, we found that we were one of the very last groups, it was a hot day and everyone was getting a bit anxious to get going.

At one point, there was a large group of us standing around in a rather disorderly fashion with most of kids surrounding the school’s instructor, Master Jeong.  As we were standing around, a dragonfly started circling over head and caught everyone’s attention.  All of a sudden Master Jeong raised his arm in the air with two of his fingers held out like you might if you wanted a bird to sit on them.  Within seconds, this dragonfly started circling around and alighted on his fingers.  Master Jeong brought his hand down in front of his chest and actually started petting the dragonfly!

You should have seen the looks on all the kids faces as they encirled their instructor, who obviously was achieving a whole new level of respect and admiration at that moment.  Heck, most of us adults watching were standing there with our jaws dropped open in amazement.  Of course, I love dragonflies to the point of having a dragonfly as part of our logo for Life Prints.  So I was thoroughly impressed!

Luckily my son’s father, TJ, had his camera with him and thought quickly and started snapping some pictures.  Then just as quickly as it began, Master Jeong lifted his hand back into the air and the dragonfly flew off.

Amazing.  Truly one of those moments in life that make you pause and wonder at the beauty of nature and man’s relationship to everything around us.

Announcing…Delia {Newborn Baby Photography, Life Prints Portrait Design}

Posted on September 24, 2010. Filed under: Baby Portraits, Image Posts |

So, a little early but what a doll she is!  In my last post, you saw some images of pregnant mom-to-be Stephanie and expectant papa Lance.  Four days later and they brought this beautiful little angel into the world.  And boy is she beautiful!

While you can’t tell from the images you see here, she was wide awake for most of the session with just a couple minutes of sleepy time after a feeding.  We put her on our big “bird nest” bean bag chair with a cozy heater blowing on her and out she went.  Well, right up until the big mean photographer moved her into a new pose.  Then she was awake for the next 2 1/2 hours.  Believe it or not though, she was so at ease and quite for most of it, though totally alert and watching what was going on around her.  At 7 days old, this was pretty amazing.  You can see in the image with daddy just how strong and alert this little baby girl was.  She lifted her little head right off his shoulder and held that pose long enough for me to snap off several frames.  Amazing indeed!

Congrats Steph & Lance.  You’ve got a real sweetie there.

A Beautiful Pregnancy Tradition: {Maternity Photography, Life Prints Portrait Design}

Posted on September 24, 2010. Filed under: Image Posts |

I was so excited to do this shoot because I had wanted to photograph a mom-to-be with henna on her belly for quite some time. When this beautiful pregnant mama came in, she told me that the artist who did her henna tattoo had based it on a Maori design. The Maori’s are the native people of New Zealand, where our pregant mom had spent some time. On top of that, stephanie wasn’t due for two more weeks but delivered four days after our portrait session. Phew! Just in time.

Best Friend from High School {Mother Daughter Portraits, Life Prints Portrait Design}

Posted on September 12, 2010. Filed under: Image Posts |

So, my best friend from high school, Kathy, called me about a month ago and asked when I was coming to visit her in Southern Utah.  I explained all the completely valid reasons why now isn’t a good time. So being true to herself, she arrived on my doorstep the next week (I did get a call a couple of days beforehand to let me know that she and her daughter were on their way.)  That’s my Kathy… spontaneous and ready to roll!

Since I hadn’t seen her in ages and had never met her daughter (who is now fourteen… sad, I know) I decided to bring them into the studio for some fun mother daughter portraits of them. My little gift for being such a lame long distance friend 🙂  I figured I’d better take advantage of them being here since I didn’t know when I’d see them again!

Anyway, Kathy is the ham that I’ve always known her to be and funny enough, her daughter Kyla has followed in her footsteps!  It was so great seeing these two and spending some time with them both in the studio and at Saturday Market!  Hopefully it won’t be so long in between visits next time!
